Adam Stangroom - Bass Guitars, Backing Vocals

The New Foundations’ newest member is their very own pocket-rocket bass-man, Adam.

Originally hailing from Wales, Adam is a multi-instrumentalist and singer who has performed in an eclectic range of styles from classical to hard rock but has always had a love for soul music – “The tracks put out by labels like Stax, Tamla and Motown feature some of the funkiest, greatest basslines ever, they are really fun to play…so groovy!”, Adam muses.

Whilst growing up just outside of Reading, Adam started his musical journey playing the trombone and piano, working his way up the classical music grades and using this experience to teach himself guitar and bass in his late-teens. Pursuing a way of combining music with the dramatic arts, Adam went back to his homeland to study Classical singing in Cardiff in the early 90s. However, it was during these 3 years that Adam was drawn away from the classical world playing in a series of original and cover bands honing his craft in pop, rock and jazz styles.

A lot of gig-playing and life has gone by since those days and nowadays Adam lives in Hampshire, teaches music at a six-form college in Henley and grumbles about having to drive too much! Still, roll on the next gig when you can catch Adam laying down his funky bass-groove with the band…
